Local Student Creates Poster Art for RE/MAX Ballunar Liftoff Festival

Houston, TX – August 5, 2004 –The Board of Directors for the non-profit, educational RE/MAX® Ballunar Liftoff Festival, presented by Schepps Dairy-the Dairy Best- has announced that local art student Anabell Cardona has been chosen as the winning designer of the event’s official poster. Cardona’s artwork will grace the cover of the Ballunar program guide, in conjunction with the August 27-29 event at the NASA/Johnson Space Center.

A 21 year-old student at The Art Institute of Houston, Cardona is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, having already acquired an Associate of Applied Science Degree in graphic design. Her winning entry, Ride the Wind Into Tomorrow, depicts an astronaut swinging from a giant, multicolored hot air balloon.

“I’m thrilled and honored to have my work selected for this program,” said Cardona. “I’ve held several internships in the Houston area, and currently do freelance work while continuing my education. I fully intend to work full time in the graphic design industry when I graduate next summer. Art Institute students have been given the opportunity to have their work recognized, and we’re very grateful to the RE/MAX Ballunar Liftoff Festival for their encouragement.”

The RE/MAX Ballunar Liftoff Festival, an annual Clear Lake tradition that draws tens of thousands of attendees, is a tribute to mankind’s fascination with flight, and traces that evolution from the first successful flying machine (the balloon) to the technological marvels of modern space flight.

Admission to the Festival is just $10 per vehicle, and includes free on-site parking at the NASA/Johnson Space Center, and on Saturday from 9am – 4 pm, a NASA mini-tour. The visual spectacle of hot air ballooning is the centerpiece, however, with over 80 sport and special shape balloons that compete in navigational contests, engage in mass ascentions as dawn, and mass balloon glows at dusk. Daylong entertainment features a carnival and midway, scores of ultra-light aircraft, skydivers in formation, music, arts, crafts, and NASA Astronauts signing autographs.

RE/MAX Ballunar Liftoff’s mission is to further young people’s interest in math and science through the study of aviation, and to provide educational scholarships in that arena. For complete directions, map, tickets, visit www.ballunarfestival.com.
